Harlow 47 Norwich 17

For the opening 15 minutes of this encounter, Norwich were the dominant side against a bigger pack and faster back line, but they still came away empty handed and picked up two potentially long term injuries to two key players, to add to their list.

With Norwich having all the early running, on 7 minutes, Alex Dixon was hit high, 7 metres from the Harlow line, earning the Harlow player a trip to the bin. Norwich should have scored but held onto the ball too long. Dixon then got on the end of an overthrown lineout and worked the ball quickly to the right wing for Jack Austin to go over for his maiden try. The kick was missed.

Harlow struck back immediately when, on a penalty advantage, a good cross-field kick landed in the wingers arms and he strolled over. The kick was missed.

On 12 minutes, Norwich suffered their first crucial injury blow when Ed Montgomery’s ankle was accidentally trodden on and he was carried off. Until that point he had been Norwich’s standout player. It saw the early introduction of Matt Austin, joining back row Henry Kerrison on their debuts.

Norwich came very close to scoring again with excellent runs by Charlie Kerrison feeding his brother Henry but the move broke down a metre from the line.

On 26 minutes Callum Van Staden was carded for a high tackle. Harlow battered the Norwich line with their dominant pack from the resulting penalty until they broke the defensive line to score and convert.

Harlow scored again from a line out maul, that Norwich could not halt and converted to go in 19:5 at half time with Norwich rueing some poor decisions and poor first up tackling in the first half.

Harlow scored early in the second half before Ollie Marsters pulled one back, going over from short range after Norwich had patiently built multiple phases. The kick was missed.

Harlow scored again, slipping through tackles and offloading to go under the posts. Callum Van Staden was then carried from the field with a hamstring tear.

Following his departure and from a potentially promising position, Norwich failed to look after the ball and Harlow ruthlessly counter attacked, having space and pace to burn, aided by a couple of missed tackles, going over again.

Norwich scored their third from a quickly taken penalty on the Harlow 22 by Danny Van Staden who found a hole in the defence to cross the line and Jake Christian-Goss converted.

Harlow were then awarded a penalty, 5 metres out in front of the posts that they took quickly and scored.

Norwich went in search of the four try bonus point but ran out of time.
